Chai Kiln was the imperial kiln of Zhou Shizong Chai Rong, the emperor of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms. According to records, the Chai kiln was established in the early years of Xiande in the Later Zhou Dynasty of the Five Dynasties. Chai kiln, along with Ru kiln, Guan kiln, Ge kiln, Jun kiln, and Ding kiln, is known as the "Six Famous Kilns". Chai kiln ranks first among the "Six Famous Kilns". After the Ming Dynasty, Chai kiln began to disappear, and the "Six Famous Kilns" gradually evolved into the "Five Famous Kilns".

The Chai kiln is an unsolved mystery in the history of ceramics, which has been a mystery in the Chinese cultural relics industry for 1000 years. Whether the successive appearance of exquisite porcelain pieces can solve the mystery, the Chai kiln is as thin as paper and as dark as the sky, which is simply unattainable among Chinese porcelain. The cultural relics industry generally believes that the firewood kiln is located in Zhengzhou. But the exact location of the kiln has not been found yet. Since 1950, ancient porcelain and porcelain kiln sites have been continuously excavated in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. In 1950, the Shang Dynasty cultural site was discovered in the fields of Erligang, Zhengzhou, where a large number of primitive celadon shards and fragments were unearthed. In 1965, a kiln site was discovered in Xichenzhuang outside the west wall of Zhengzhou People's Park, and a complete original celadon ware was also unearthed. In 1994, the renovation of North Street in Zhengzhou began. Numerous porcelain kiln sites have been discovered. In 1995, the Red Flag Building and Liberation Cinema on Dongda Street in Zhengzhou were demolished, revealing the remains of porcelain kilns as well as many black and celadon shards. In 1996, kiln sites were excavated on the vacant land near the Fourth Woodworking Factory on Shuyuan Street and Chuangxin Street Primary School in Zhengzhou. In 1997, during the construction of Zijingshan Road, a green chrysanthemum mouth plate and a green bowl were unearthed in the East Street area of the court, along with many ancient porcelain pieces and kiln tools. In 2001, during the expansion and renovation of Dongxi Street, a group of ancient kiln sites were excavated and unearthed by the Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology at the construction site of Xiaolangdi Hotel on the north side of Zijingshan Road. Simultaneously excavated celadon shards from the Song and Yuan dynasties, including two exceptionally exquisite complete objects, thin bodied and emerald green. At that time, someone associated these porcelain with wood fired porcelain.

One of the earliest high-temperature glazed porcelain in China, the Chai kiln carries a thousand year cultural heritage and has become an important physical basis for studying ancient porcelain making techniques. The porcelain produced by the Chai kiln is "as green as the sky, as clear as a mirror, as thin as paper, as loud as a bell, moist and delicate with fine lines." It is exquisitely crafted with unparalleled brilliance and is the best among many kilns at that time, known as the "Porcelain Emperor".

The colors of porcelain from the Five Dynasties Chai kiln mainly include celadon, white porcelain, and black porcelain. This melon shaped wood kiln holding pot is made of white porcelain, with a smooth and delicate glaze surface. After years of baptism, the glaze surface is sky blue, similar to the color of the sky where "the rain falls and the clouds break". The glaze layer is very thin, as thin as paper. This describes the light and thin nature of Chai kiln porcelain, which can even transmit light. There is a saying in the folk that 'a piece of wood kiln tile is worth a thousand gold'. Even a piece of wood kiln porcelain is worth a thousand gold, let alone this piece of porcelain that is very complete and exquisite.

This piece of Chai kiln porcelain is a gourd shaped holding pot, with a slender gourd shaped body. Gualeng teapot - the most high-end type of teapot holder. Holding pots played too many roles in ancient times, and were widely used in the Song Dynasty. However, which type of teapot holder is the most particular and high-end? That's a gourd shaped teapot.
