Premium Recommendation -A group of meteorites (two pieces)

The first meteorite is an irregular block overall, with an outline roughly approaching an ellipsoid and an uneven surface. In terms of morphology, its edges show obvious traces of molten flow, which may have been formed by the uneven heating of different parts when passing through the atmosphere, causing the surface material to flow and then cool. The pits and gas prints on the surface are relatively evenly distributed, and there are certain differences in the size and depth of the gas prints, reflecting the complexity of the air flow impact at that time. The thickness of the black fusion crust appears uneven; in some areas, due to later weathering and erosion, there may be a certain degree of peeling, but the approximate range of the original fusion crust can still be seen. These features provide intuitive evidence that it has undergone a process of high-temperature aerodynamic heating.
The second meteorite has a more irregular shape, with sharp edges and corners and steep slopes, and its overall outline is similar to a small mountain. The unevenness of its surface is more intense, and the gas prints have various forms, such as long strips and circles, reflecting that the air flow environment it experienced in the atmosphere was more complex. The distribution of the black fusion crust is also uneven; some areas are darker in color, which may be parts where molten material accumulated thicker, while in some edge areas, the fusion crust is thinner, and even the internal material is exposed, providing clues for judging its internal composition. Compared with the first meteorite, its shape can better reflect the dynamic process of the meteorite when passing through the atmosphere, and different stress and heating conditions have shaped its unique appearance.

Meteorites, as celestial fragments from outer space that land on the Earth's surface, carry information about the evolution of the solar system and even more distant cosmic regions. Each meteorite is a unique cosmic messenger, holding mysteries related to star birth, planet formation, and the effects of cosmic rays. This article focuses on two meteorites with black appearances and distinct shapes, analyzing them from multiple dimensions such as their basic identification features, possible classification criteria, and scientific value, in an attempt to unveil their mysterious veils and explore the profound history of the universe.
Meteorites are stony, metallic, or stony-iron mixed substances that are unburned cosmic meteors from outside the Earth, which have broken away from their original orbits or fragmented and rapidly scattered onto the surface of the Earth or other planets. There are usually some key signs to identify meteorites on Earth: first, the fusion crust. When a meteorite passes through the Earth's atmosphere, its surface melts due to high temperatures, forming a shell of molten material, which appears black, dark brown, etc., after cooling. The black appearance of these two meteorites may be an embodiment of the fusion crust; second, the regmaglypts. The surface of a high-speed moving meteorite, impacted by air currents, will form pit-like depressions similar to those made by thumb presses. Judging from the images, the uneven shapes on the surfaces of the two meteorites are likely to be regmaglypts; third, density. Meteorites generally have a higher density than Earth's rocks because they contain metals and other components; fourth, magnetism. Many meteorites contain iron-nickel metals and thus have a certain degree of magnetism.
In terms of scientific value, meteorites are rare cosmic samples, and each one may contain unique cosmic information. Collecting meteorites reserves samples for scientific research, especially if private collections can be reasonably opened to scientific research institutions, which can supplement the deficiencies of public sample libraries. In terms of cultural value, meteorites carry human curiosity and spirit of exploration towards the universe, serving as vivid materials for popular science education. Collecting meteorites can inherit this culture and become a bridge connecting science and the public. In terms of economic value, due to the rarity and scientific research value of meteorites, they have certain value in the collection market. However, we need to be vigilant against speculation and transactions of fake meteorites. Scientific and rational collection can promote the healthy development of meteorite culture.
Meteorite popular science can arouse the public's interest in astronomy and geology, especially among teenagers. By coming into contact with real meteorites and learning about their stories, teenagers can develop curiosity about exploring the universe. In popular science activities, explaining the formation and fall process of meteorites can help the public understand the Earth's position in the universe and the evolution of the solar system, and improve the scientific literacy of the whole people. At the same time, meteorite popular science can spread the scientific spirit and cultivate the public's empirical thinking. When facing mysterious cosmic phenomena, people can explore the truth through scientific analysis and experimental verification, resist pseudoscience and superstitious ideas, and create a social atmosphere of rational thinking.
These two black meteorites, as samples gifted by the universe, though simple in appearance, contain profound cosmic mysteries. From preliminary appearance analysis to accurate laboratory identification, from the formation history of individuals to collaborative research on cosmic evolution, every step of exploration is expanding the boundaries of human cognition of the universe. They may be relics of primitive nebulae or fragments of differentiated asteroids, carrying information about the formation of the solar system, planetary evolution, and the effects of cosmic rays, waiting for humans to decode with scientific tools and thinking. Meteorite research is not only an exploration in the academic field but also a link connecting the universe and the Earth, science and the public. It allows us to more clearly understand the "letters" written by the universe to humans when looking up at the stars, appreciate the vastness and magic of the universe we live in, and inspire us to continue heading for the stars and seas to explore more unknown cosmic mysteries.
