Premium Recommendation -Official Commemorative Album of Coins from the Belt and Road Countries

蒙古国 100 图格里克:票面印刻蒙古传统服饰与民族纹样,展现草原文明的独特气质;

缅甸 50 缅元:以缅甸传统神兽 “狮身鹰首兽” 为核心图案,承载佛教文化与东南亚艺术风格;

孟加拉国 5 塔卡:印刻该国国父谢赫・穆吉布・拉赫曼的肖像,既是政治符号,也是民族精神的凝聚;

尼泊尔 5 卢比:票面融合喜马拉雅山脉(珠穆朗玛峰)与传统建筑,体现山地国家的自然与人文共生;

白俄罗斯 50 卢布:以松鼠为图案,传递东欧国家的自然生态理念;

柬埔寨 100 瑞尔:印刻西哈努克太皇肖像与吴哥窟元素,串联起柬埔寨的历史与当代;

第一枚(对应 “一带”):主图为 “骆驼 +‘和谐号’高铁”—— 驼队是古代陆上丝绸之路的象征,高铁则是当代互联互通的标志,古今元素的并置,展现丝路从 “驼铃古道” 到 “钢铁驼队” 的跨越;

第二枚(对应 “一路”):主图为 “郑和宝船 +‘中远海运宇宙’轮”—— 宝船是明代海上丝路的辉煌符号,巨轮则代表当代海运的全球格局,寓意海上丝路的传承与升级;

The core value of this commemorative album lies in its dual structure of "genuine banknotes and coins + themed silver medallions". It not only preserves the inherent cultural attributes of each country’s currency but also endows them with contemporary thematic significance through the commemorative medallions.

According to Dai Zhiqiang, former curator of the China Numismatic Museum, the album features currencies from 70 countries, including coins from 50 nations and banknotes from 20, achieving complete coverage under the principle of "one currency per country". The process of collecting these currencies has been hailed as "a cultural expedition spanning mountains and seas".

Most of the banknotes included in the album bear iconic cultural symbols of their respective countries, as illustrated below:

Mongolia: 100 Tugrik: The note depicts traditional Mongolian costumes and ethnic patterns, embodying the unique charm of grassland civilization.

Myanmar: 50 Kyat: Centered on the mythical griffin—a sacred beast in Burmese tradition—the note carries the essence of Buddhist culture and Southeast Asian artistic styles.

Bangladesh: 5 Taka: Featuring a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh, the note serves as both a political symbol and a testament to the nation’s collective spirit.

Nepal: 5 Rupee: Blending imagery of the Himalayas (Mount Everest) and traditional architecture, the note reflects the harmonious coexistence of nature and humanity in this mountainous country.

Belarus: 50 Rubles: Adorned with a squirrel motif, the note conveys the ecological philosophy of this Eastern European nation.

Cambodia: 100 Riels: Showcasing a portrait of King Father Norodom Sihanouk and elements of Angkor Wat, the note weaves together Cambodia’s historical legacy and contemporary identity.

Madagascar: 100 Ariary: Depicting colonial-era architecture and indigenous art, the note mirrors the multicultural fusion of this African island nation.

Acquiring some of these banknotes posed extraordinary challenges. For instance, the Syrian banknotes were rare, out-of-print specimens carefully selected "at great personal risk" amid the turmoil of war, making their scarcity and historical significance truly unparalleled.

Though small in size, the coins in the album encapsulate the core cultural symbols of their respective countries: from the religious totems of Southeast Asia and architectural patterns of the Middle East, to the historical figures of Europe and natural species of Africa. Each coin functions as a "miniature encyclopedia".

The coin collection covers 50 countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, and Jordan. Some of these coins have been phased out of circulation due to monetary reforms in their home countries, transforming them into "living fossils of civilization".

The commemorative silver medallions were minted by Nanjing Mint Co., Ltd. using 999 fine silver, available in three specifications: 20g, 110g, and 210g. Among them, the 20g version—limited to 100,000 sets—is the most sought-after collectible, with its design rich in profound cultural metaphors:

20g Silver Medallions (2 pieces per set)

The First Medallion (representing the "Silk Road Economic Belt"): Its obverse features a camel caravan paired with a "Harmony" high-speed train. The camel caravan symbolizes the ancient overland Silk Road, while the high-speed train stands for modern connectivity. The juxtaposition of ancient and modern elements illustrates the Silk Road’s evolution from a "path of camel bells" to a "steel camel caravan".

The Second Medallion (representing the "21st-Century Maritime Silk Road"): Showcasing Zheng He’s treasure ship alongside the COSCO Shipping Universe container vessel, it honors the maritime Silk Road’s glorious legacy from the Ming Dynasty and its modern transformation into a global shipping network, symbolizing inheritance and advancement.

Detailed Design Elements: The medallions incorporate a spiral ribbon silhouette featuring iconic architecture from Belt and Road countries (such as Yanqi Lake Tower in China and the Colosseum in ancient Rome). Their reverse side is inscribed with the phrase "Belt and Road" in both Chinese and English, along with the year 2019, seamlessly integrating contemporary themes with artistic aesthetics.

110g/210g Silver Medallions

The 110g medallion (limited to 30,000 sets) features landmark cities along the overland and maritime Silk Roads, together with Yanqi Lake (the venue of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation), commemorating the profound historical depth of the initiative.

The 210g medallion (limited to 8,000 sets) presents a grand panorama of prosperity along the Silk Road. Crafted using mint-grade techniques such as mirror finishing and sandblasting, it boasts exquisite details that highlight its superior craftsmanship.

《出品证书》由中钞光华印制有限公司出具,编号唯一,印有 “一带一路” 主题纹样与熊猫水印防伪;

In 2013, the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) reactivated the civilizational genes of the ancient Silk Road. Once a trade route linking the East and the West, it now takes "policy coordination, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration, and people-to-people bonds" as its core, evolving into a practical pathway for building a community with a shared future for mankind. In 2019, on the occasion of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, the Commemorative Album of Coins from Belt and Road Countries was officially released. It serves not only as a memento of this historic moment but also as a medium that uses coins—each country’s "cultural calling card"—to connect civilizational dialogues among all nations along the routes.

As Wu Tao, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, noted: "Taking coins as symbols of economy and culture, this commemorative album will stand as a historical testament to the peaceful, friendly and cooperative development of all countries along the Belt and Road." As material carriers of a nation’s credit, coins encapsulate the historical landscapes, religious beliefs and economic trajectories of their respective countries through their shapes, patterns and inscriptions. When coins from 70 countries converge in one album, they form a microcosmic illustrated guide to global civilizations.

The binding and design of the album itself represent an extension of its role as a cultural carrier, with every detail echoing the BRI theme:

The cover features a deep forest green background, with the words "Belt and Road" printed in gold foil. Complementing this are line drawings of iconic architectural landmarks from both ancient and modern Silk Roads—including ancient Chinese pagodas, the Roman Colosseum, the Egyptian Pyramids and Middle Eastern mosques—all linked by stylized "Silk Road ribbons", visually embodying the concept of "mutual learning among civilizations".

The inner pages adopt a layout of "coin display + textual annotation". Next to each coin, there are notes specifying the country name, currency unit and cultural background. For example, the Mongolian coin is labeled "Symbol of Grassland Civilization", while the Myanmar coin includes an explanation of "The Cultural Implications of Buddhist Mythical Beasts". This allows collectors to embark on a global cultural tour while appreciating the exhibits.

The album is accompanied by two official documents: a Certificate of Production and a Certificate of Authentication:

The Certificate of Production, issued by CNGC Kwanghua Printing Co., Ltd., bears a unique serial number, is decorated with BRI-themed patterns and incorporates a panda watermark for anti-counterfeiting purposes.

The Certificate of Authentication, certified by the National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center for Gold and Silver Products, clearly specifies the silver medallions’ material (999 fine silver), weight and craftsmanship standards, ensuring the collection’s authoritativeness and collectible value.

IV. Collectible Value: The Triple Overlay of Civilization, Era and Scarcity

The value of the Commemorative Album of Coins from Belt and Road Countries far transcends its physical nature as a "coin collection". It has evolved into a triple value composite—a carrier of civilization, a witness to its era and a scarce collectible.

Coins are a nation’s "cultural DNA". The grassland patterns on Mongolian coins, the Buddhist mythical beasts on Myanmar’s currency, the Himalayan landscapes on Nepalese rupees, the Angkor Wat motifs on Cambodian riels… Together, these 70 national currencies form a microcosmic history of global civilizations, boasting a cultural information density comparable to that of a small World Numismatic Museum.

As Wang Dan, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Numismatic Society, stated: "This commemorative album embodies the distinct historical civilizations, local customs and religious beliefs of all nations along the routes. It is a material testament to the exchanges and mutual learning between different civilizations."

Launched in 2019, the same year as the Second Belt and Road Forum, the album stands as a material anchor marking the progress of this era. It not only records the phased achievements of the BRI from a conceptual initiative to concrete practice but also symbolizes the spirit of the times—interconnection and win-win cooperation—through coins, the economic bonds between nations.

As Chen Entian, Chairman of the Belt and Road International Day Organizing Committee, put it: "This is a testament to a path of peace and friendship that enhances mutual understanding and trust, and strengthens all-dimensional exchanges."

When Mongolia’s grassland patterns meet China’s high-speed trains, Myanmar’s Buddhist mythical beasts stand alongside modern cargo vessels, and Syria’s rare out-of-print banknotes converge with the vision of global connectivity—all within the pages of one album—the Commemorative Album of Coins from Belt and Road Countries is no longer a mere collectible. It is a resonance between the camel bells of the ancient Silk Road and the "steel camel caravans" of the modern age; a practice of different civilizations advancing from "beautifying one’s own" to "beautifying together"; and a material expression of the vision of a "community with a shared future for mankind".

With coins as its brush and civilization as its ink, this album writes the epic of the Belt and Road era on its pages and silver medallions. And every collector, in the moment they flip through its pages, becomes both a reader and a inheritor of this grand epic.
