Daoguang Tongbao was cast during the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty , a critical juncture when the Qing Dynasty was declining from prosperity. At that time, the poison of opium was spreading day by day, a large amount of silver was flowing out, and the social economy was on the verge of collapse. The obverse of this coin, "Daoguang Tongbao", is written in regular script with a dignified and stable font, and the reverse is Manchu script indicating the mint. Although it appears somewhat simple and crude due to the rough casting process, it truly reflects the embarrassment of the empty national treasury. The wear marks and patina on the edge of the coin are witnesses of its circulation among the people, and every line records the survival marks of the people in the late Qing Dynasty in the turbulent times.

The four characters "Guangxu Tongbao" on the obverse of the coin are elegant in writing, and the reverse, in addition to the Manchu mint name, also has special marks such as star and moon patterns, showing the subtle progress of coin-making technology in the late Qing Dynasty. Compared with Daoguang Tongbao, its casting is more sophisticated, but it still cannot cover up the severe reality of internal and external troubles at that time.
