From its form, the Qianlong Tongbao is round on the outside and square on the inside, continuing the traditional shape of ancient Chinese coins since the Qin dynasty. The outer circle symbolizes the sky, while the inner square represents the earth, reflecting the ancient Chinese worldview and philosophical thought of "round sky and square earth." It implies that the principles of heaven and earth, the way of the square and circle, are all contained within this small coin. The obverse of the coin is clearly minted with the four regular script characters "Qianlong Tongbao", which are dignified and well-arranged in font, with strokes that are strong and forceful, written by the imperial hand of Emperor Qianlong himself. These four characters not only possess high artistic value in calligraphy but also embody the imperial majesty and dignity. The characters "Qianlong" carry the emperor's aspirations for his reign, wishing for the nation's prosperity, growth, and long-term stability. The reverse of the coin is marked with Manchu script indicating the mint name, with different Manchu characters representing different minting bureaus, such as Baoquan Bureau, Baoyuan Bureau, etc. These minting bureaus were located throughout the country and collectively undertook the task of minting Qianlong Tongbao, reflecting the perfection of the national currency minting system at that time.
